The graduation that never ended....
I know graduations aren't known for being speedy. And in all truthfulness, this one didn't last as long as it could have. Last night my brother graduated from MCC with his Associates degree in Applied sciences for a horticulture major. We decided that we wanted to support him and be there, yet I did not want to spend the night wrestling a 6 month old. So John very kindly volunteered to keep Ellie, Rachel and Matthew at home and Harrison and I could have a date to the graduation. We stopped on the way still trying to figure out what to give him. What do you give a guy who graduates??? Guys are just hard to buy for anyway. So Harrison picked out a palm tree for him. I guess plants are safe with a horticulture major. Hopefully he has a place to plant a palm tree though. We did give him the receipt and he is welcome to exchange it for a plant that he would prefer. Then we went and took graduation pictures for him. Notice the background, we took them where he spent all his time at MCC. Then we dropped him off for the early stuff and we went to eat. We got back in time to squeeze into bleachers and sit uncomfortably with an 18 month old, a tired 8 year old and a my pregnant sister in law for the next few hours. It really wouldn't have seemed so long, but it didn't start until 8:00pm. So by the time we were done and stopped at sonic for an ice cream to celebrate, it was almost midnight when we got home. To give credit where credit was due, the talks were actually better than most. My nephew, never once had to be taken out and never once screamed and threw a fit like some of the other kids. Harrison only took one nap during the event. It just all was a reminder that we can survive anything we decide to get ourselves into. If you had kids when a spouse graduated what did you do? Do you have the kid(s) apart of it so they are in the pictures and everything, or did you get a sitter and leave them out of it? I know we took Matthew when John graduated from BYU and he was about 1 year old, but as they get older do you do it or not? I'm just curious what people think about what is best and why.

I just endured Chris' graduation ceremony this morning and was feeling really stupid for bringing both the boys...four potty trips, no binky, a $3 package of starbursts and only being in my seat for twenty minutes of an hour and a half long ceremony... it was totally worth it when Chris got to show the boys off to his classmates afterwards.
Talking about this post, Dave and I were remembering taking Aidan to Summer's preschool graduation last May. Man, was it hot out there! And while it was a super cute graduation, poor Aidan was a little dehydrated by the end. Just the beginning of programs he'd have to sit through for his big sister (he endured a music concert just tonight, in fact)!
