Overcoming a fear, one stroke at a time

Ellie is my strange girl. Well, she is just like me. She hates water. That makes her strange. Since infancy she has always hated a bath. Through the toddler years when all kids love baths and such she hates them. The pool is an evil place to her.
We put her in swimming lessons this year. She was super brave and though she cried through most of it she did get in and do most things. She even would put her face in the water which is a HUGE milestone!
A few things we figured out over a month of swimming lessons. She actually likes water. She just hates the sound of water. She doesn't like ear plugs and what that does to other sounds. But so long as there isn't a fountain running or the filling of a tub she is content to play in the water and will put her head in and everything.
Now that we have learned it's the sound of water she hates bathtime is becoming much more enjoyable. You just fill the tub before you walk into the bathroom. It doesn't help wtih the flushing the toilet and washing of the hands which both require the sound of water and freaks her out still. But hey, one battle at a time right?
I really am super proud of Ellie. This is such a huge milestone to swim in the water. To not be freaked out by the water. She loved her teacher Jordan and can't wait until he teaches her again next summer!
Way to go big girl Ellie! Momma is sooo proud of you!! You also know they are a Nevels by the fact they all do everything like a dog with their tongue wagging out of their mouths.

Wow, that is funny that it is the sound of water that is the fear. I am glad that she was at least able to get in the pool this year, especially since your guys heat is so unbearable down there.
