Easter Egg Hunt and othertraditions

A few years ago I started doing a small Easter Egg hunt. Not a huge neighborhood thing, but since we don't have lots of family and cousins and such to have a big hunt and it always seems a little silly to hide just for my kids we do a little one.

One of the nice things about this hunt depending on how you look at it is we avoid doing it on the busy weekends. Some years Spring break fell the week before Easter so we could just do it during the day while the kids were off school. I know most husbands don't get to participate, but to be honest, it's not something that John feels bad missing. This year the kids had "good friday" off school so we did it in the morning on Friday. There were a few dad's who had the day off so they got to participate. The rest of us, well us mom's can do just fine.

One of the things that we have done for years that has helped things be fun and interesting for the kids as they have gotten older is we hide one egg with a 5.00 bill in it. Yeah, it's worth the hunt. This year I enlisted a couple dad's who are teachers to come and help hide the eggs. With ladder and tree climbing, a couple scratches and a well hidden egg we were set. This year instead of buying candy to fill the eggs I took a change jar and filled a bunch of other eggs with change. Each mom brings a bunch of filled eggs the day before so there was more than enough candy to go around. It was fun to have my sister in law make the drive across the valley to be there with us for it to.

My boys scaled things and left every "easy" egg to skip to harder to get eggs in hopes of getting the "golden egg".

And Matthew was so excited to get the 5.00 egg. The boys were happy with the extra few dollars they ended up with too.

Another tradition that I'm not good at taking pictures at but we have come to really enjoy is Pizza at the park during the Priesthood session. Again, there are quite a few of us who don't have lots of family around here close and with time constraints in getting ready for priesthood session and such we just pick up Little Ceasars and play until the boys are done.

Though this year my cute Matthew is old enough that he went to the priesthood session with John and then out to dinner and ice cream at Dairy Queen afterwards. I love having traditions even if they are simple ones!
