Pinewood derby
This year since Matthew turned 11 the week before he did not make a pinewood derby car. Harrison was very proud of his "Dirt Mobile" He was bugged when I thought I was being nice and sprayed his clear coat on it for him but he had not wanted it shiny since it was supposed to look like dirt. Luckily he forgave me! When we first took it to run (We were graciously allowed to join another ward due to scheduling conflict with ours), it did not run well. It kept coming in last. I felt so bad. We try so hard every year and we end up with the same result each year. Then the leaders of that ward had a pit stop in the middle of things. They took Harrison aside to the pit crew area, not letting me follow. They worked on his car with him. When it came back he was winning races. He was so excited. They were such a great group who really worked to help him feel a part of things! He then let another little boy in our ward race his car during our actual derby since he couldn't be there and the other boy hadn't made a car. He held his own from what we heard and he won the "Down and Dirty award" Go Harrison!
