Matthew gets his arrow of light

I have two boys who love scouts. It is a wonderful thing. They are constantly looking for new ways to earn arrow points and badges and things. It is always a sad month when you don't get awarded something. Well, our ward this time did a special ceremony for the arrow of light. We had four boys earn it. It is the highest award a boy scout can earn and it is the only badge that carries over from cub scout to boy scout. They had 3 indians come in who as they told the boys "have been watching over our troop for many seasons" They came to honor those boys who have achieved this highest honor. They stared down each boy. (It was fun to watch them squirm) Then he choose the four boys who earned it and made them say the oath and do the handshake and motto to show that they deserved it. Once that final test was over they called the parents up to stand behind the boys. He told the boys to show their parents how grateful they are for them. All four boys stood there not moving. He whispered to them (Hug them!) Promptly all boys did as they were told. The mom pins were given to the boys to give to us mom's with a hug. Then the badges were given to us to give to our sons with a hug. When it was all done the indians gave each boy an arrow to remember this moment. Then before leaving the indian told the other boys that he would continue to watch over them and hoped to return to place this honor on other boys. Needless to say, it was the quietest pack meeting has ever been. Also, at least for Harrison, it sure got him excited to keep on the path towards his arrow of light. Way to go Matthew. I am so proud of you!
