At first Rachel was really the only one excited to decorate it. But I was a mean mom and made the boys come down and watch for a few minutes even if they didn't want to help. That didn't last long. They all worked hard to have a beautiful house.
Each kid kind of took a "side" of the house that was theirs to work on.
I started by doing some frosting on the roof or simple shapes around the doors or path to the door to get things going for them. It didn't take more than a minute before the boys wanted control of the bag of frosting to make it how they wanted it made.
I wasn't sure how Ellie would do, but she took it doing it amazingly well. She never stopped working on her side.
This first side was Matthew's side. He got the back of the house. He loved the stain glass window he made from the mints along with using the one candycane to make a gate by the side of the house.
Harrison did the front of the house. His is like always about coordinating and color. He likes simple stylish things. Pattern and matching candy are important to making the front of the house have curb appeal.
Rachel also likes pattern and a reason for why things go where, but she loves lots of colors as shown on her roof. She also made a soccer field on the side of the house so the boys would like the house. What a thoughtful sister.
As for Ellie's side, well, as I said she never stopped. She was on the side away from John and so he hadn't seen how much she had put on until the whole thing was covered. The only point in white frosting was to have a way to stick the candy in. That house was covered by her. She was so proud.
After only a day of everyone enjoying the way the house looked, it's already been snacked on quite a bit. There are no longer any gummy bears or lemon heads. The door and chimney are gone. No one has dared conquer Ellie's side of the roof. It's a little daunting for even the biggest sweet tooth.
