Battle of the Books

So harrison is participating in a competition called Battle of the Books. They get 5th and 6th graders in teams of three. They then are assigned 4 books to read. All the teams read the four books, studying them in detail, typically each kid taking one book then sharing the last book.

They get together for the battle where questions are read. Each team gets 5 questions where it's in this format, "In what book did......happen?" If they say the title of the book correct they get five points, if they say author correct also they get and additional 3 points. Then for round two each team gets three questions where the format is something like, "In such and such book what is color of hat so and so is wearing" or other such things. They get 10 points each for those questions. They then do this two other times with four new books. The scores from all four competitions are added together and the winner goes onto district and winners from there onto city.

This is the type of competition that is right up Harrison's alley. He read two of the books, his two partners each read one book. His team is made up of all 5th graders. One of his teammates was sick so he started reading her book that morning. He was able to answer every single question correct, several of them from the book the sick partner was supposed to have read. Way to go Harrison and team!!! His team was one of three that had a perfect score!!! Way to go guys!!

Now to find all the books, if anyone has these books they would love to lend him for a few months as he has to read them multiple times, or is looking for gift ideas here are the books for the rest of the year.

Battle 1:
Eleven by Patricia Reilly Giff, Walk Two Moons by Sharon Creech, Jennifer Murdley's Toad by Bruce Coville, and Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of Nimh by Robert O'Brien--these are the books from the battle shown here, but if they go onto district they have to reread all these books.

Battle 2: Fablehaven by Brandon Mull(we have this one), The Borrowers by Mary Norton, Danger in the Desert by Terri Fields, and Bridge to Terabithia by Katherine Paterson (I thought we had this one but we can't find it.)

Battle 3: The Softwire: Virus on Orbis 1 by PJ Haarsma, Esperanza Rising by Pam Munoz Ryan, Joey Pigza Swallowed the Key by Jack Gantos, and Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes by Eleanor Coerr.
