Nun the God of Chaos

For school, Matthew's class learned about the greek gods. His god was Nun, the God of Chaos. This has been a multi week "mom" project. He had to research him, draw a costume out, create a prop, write a report, write an oral report and memorize it to speak it at the wax museum. And then dress in costume to be in a class Wax museum. This was all great, until I realized I would be out of town for this. We worked all our free time leading up to it to working on getting things done, so it would be complete before I left town. More about the trip in another post. It all went pretty well, if you forget about the costume left in the car, the school being difficult with my friend who was showing up with her kids to help him get ready after several times confirming that it should be fine for her to be there with them, being poked by a safetypin, having to wear make up as an 11 year old boy, or the lost piece of the costume when it finally made it there. So proud of him for holding it together through all of it and not freaking out when things didn't go quite right!

The other thing, we ran into with this project is I told him it was a zero dollar budget to put things together. So, as I am impressed with the ingenuity of my son I want to point out how he put his costume together. First, his prop, the staff, was made from our garage broom handle with a the head of a rubber toy snake duct taped onto it. From there, we found some spray paint in the garage from who knows what project in gold and silver and spraypainted the handle silver and the snake head gold. Next was the head piece. It had to have something sticking out the top and then something handing down. Again this was all supposed to be in silver or gold. We found an old ruined zip tie of Harrison's, (once you've sucked on the end of the tie enough weeks at church there is no recovery for it.) and the end of the rubber snake. We unzipped the tie to the right size for it to sit on his head. Then we duct taped the entire thing including the snake tail which we put sticking up the top of the tie. We found some christmas ribbon that was green with gold edging to make his arm and ankle bands. We then were left at a loss on what to do for the choker collar part. We put out requests for any old necklaces or something that I could spray paint, but instead my friend had a piece of great gold material which we cut a yoke for around his neck and a long strip with pieces tied onto it for his waste piece. John and him took a paper towel roll and some electrical tape to make his chin piece and finished it off with eyeliner to do the egyptian eyes! What a handsome God he was! And he did it all without spending a single penny! Go Boy!!!
